Yeast infection or technically known as candidosis, moniliasis, and oidiomycosis is a fungal infection of a genus species. Yeast is present on human skin and moist areas like mouth and vagina. It can be various types like Oral candidiasis, Diaper candidiasis, Perianal candidasis and so on. Among children of age group three to nine years, chronic mouth yeast infection is very common. In contrast to children, women suffer from yeast infections in their vaginal area which leads to a swollen vagina. This infection in case of women is referred to as vaginal Candidiasis. Infection is caused due to increase in the quantity of yeast as compared to bacteria present normally.

In case of males, male genital infection is less common. It generally occurs by having direct contact during sexual intercourse with an infected partner. Its symptoms include severe itching, burning sensation and irritation. To treat such infections antibiotics must be avoided and antimycotics such as clotrimazole, nystatin, fluconazole, and ketoconazole must be taken instead.

Preventive Measures:

1) Don’t share towels and wash cloths.
2) Always wash your undergarments in hot water.
3) Change your swimsuits and exercise clothes immediately after use.
4) Use condom while having sex if you are having a fungal infection.
